Vuyisa Nkonyeni, CEO of KTH, has been appointed Non-Executive Director of Kagiso Media:

 

Vuyisa has more than 20 years’ experience in investment banking and private equity.

 

He is a Chartered Accountant by training, having served his articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers between 1994 and 1996.

 

He joined Deutsche Bank in 1997 where he gained investment banking experience, primarily in corporate and project finance advisory work over a four-year period.  He also served as the Financial Director of Worldwide African Investment Holdings and Director at Actis LLP.

Setshedi
Chief Financial Officer

Tshepo Setshedi has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Kagiso Media with effect from 1 November 2016.  Tshepo has also been appointed to the Kagiso Media Board as an Executive Director.

 

Tshepo  holds  a  Bachelor  of  Commerce  Honours  degree  from  the  University  of  Pretoria  and  is  a qualified Chartered Accountant. He completed his articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) in Johannesburg and Boston Massachusetts in 2006. Prior to joining KTH in 2009 as a Financial Manager, he worked for Eskom Treasury and then rejoined PWC as a manager in the financial services division where he gained extensive experience in financial reporting and compliance.

 

Tshepo was previously appointed as an executive in the KTH investment team, where his responsibilities  included transaction origination, execution and post investment value management.  He participates in various boards and board sub-committees of portfolio companies.

Raj Govender
Alternate Director

Raj Govender has been appointed Alternate Director of Kagiso Media.

 

Raj joined KTH in March 2015.  Prior to that, he was employed by Shanduka Fund Managers / Shanduka Group for 9 years, where he held various roles including Acting CFO and Head of M&A.  He left Shanduka in March 2012 and subsequently ran his own consulting business focusing on investment banking including BEE Advisory and capital raising for small to medium sized transactions.

 

Raj is a Chartered Accountant and has 16 years’ experience in deal making and investment management and has led/co-led key transactions at Shanduka including  the acquisition of a majority stake in Coca-Cola Shanduka Beverages from Coca- Cola South Africa;  the acquisition of McDonalds South Africa from McDonalds Corporation in 2011;  the acquisition of an equity stake in Mondi Packaging SA and the subsequent listing on the JSE of the business,  plus the sale of Shanduka Groups’ stake therein.

Frencel Gillion has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman of Kagiso Media and will also chair the Remuneration and Nomination Committees:

 

Frencel is a Chartered Accountant having completed his articles with EY in 1995.  He was appointed Group Financial Director of Kagiso Tiso Holdings (‘KTH’) in 2011.  In his current role he has been responsible for establishing a R2 billion Domestic Medium Term Note (‘DMTN’) Programme for KTH and for raising R1,6 billion in bonds through the DMTN programme.

 

Prior to KTH, Frencel was Chief Investment Officer at the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) and also held various other senior roles in the investment banking and private equity industry including Head of Public Finance at African Merchant Bank (‘AMB’) and Head of Corporate Finance at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (‘DBSA’).

 

Frencel has more than 20 years’ investment management experience including more than 10 years’ executive leadership experience.  He was also a senior member of the investment team responsible for the R1,8 billion public-to-private transaction in 2013 involving acquiring the minority interests in Kagiso Media (‘KM’) and delisting the company.  He has been a member of the KM Board since 2011.

Modise Madondo, currently a Director of Kagiso Media, has been appointed Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee:

 

Modise joined KTH in September 2012 as Executive Manager: Investments.  She has now been promoted into the role of Director: Investments.  Modise was previously with Actis as Associate within the Private Equity Division where her responsibilities included business investment analysis.  She was also involved in portfolio management, new deal originations and served on the board of Alexander Forbes including its Audit, Remuneration, Social, Ethics and Transformation committees.

 

Prior to joining Actis she was with Deutsche Bank in a similar role.  She completed her articles with Deloitte and was seconded as senior auditor to New York post completion of her articles.  At KTH Modise is responsible for transaction origination, execution and post investment value management and participates in various board and board sub-committees of portfolio companies.
